Prayer Services

Prayer Services are held weekly on Wednesdays at 7:00pm and are available on Facebook @ Urbanna Methodist Church.  You may view these services live or on your schedule. To find these prayers services, go to Facebook, search Urbanna Methodist Church.

The format consists of pastor lead prayers and scripture readings reflecting issues facing the world, the US, our state, our community and ourselves.

Music Ministry

Opportunities for music abound at Urbanna.  All of our choirs rely on volunteers. There is a traditional choir that sings each Sunday and there is a bell choir that performs during our various religious seasons.  No auditions necessary, just a wiling spirit. if you are interested in praising God through music, call Judy Short who is our music director and an ordained minister.  She can be reached at 540-493-2379 or jeshort05gmail.com.

Jubal

Jubal is a contemporary praise and worship team organized in 2011 to take part in what was then called "A Different Kind of Worship in the Urbanna United Methodist Church.

The name Jubal is recognized as the forefather of all musicians ("the father of those who play the harp and flute") and can be found in Genesis chapter 4:21.

Original members are Sandra Dize - vocals and guitar, Charles Dunlevy - vocals and guitar and David Valdez - vocals and keyboard.

Outreach Ministry

Urbanna reaches our community in many ways.

There are opportunities to join a knitting group which provides prayer shawls to those in need.

Once a month, a team provides lunch for our community assisted living facility, Port Town.

Soon, we will be back to visiting nursing homes.

One of our biggest ministries is our support for the Horizon's Daycare that is located in our church building.  There are opportunities for tutoring, mentoring and interacting with our students in a Christian environment.

Each Christmas, we support Operation Christmas child.

Our church has been blessed with endowment donations that allow the church to grant scholarships to those individuals who are pursuing higher education.

For more information on any or all of these activities, call our minister, Bruce Johnson at 434 610-1115 or email him at rbrucejohnson2010@gmail.com.  Also remember to check the news and events section.  Specific dates will be posted there.

Fellowship and Service: Women's Circles and the Men's Group

Although they take a break in the summer,  our women's circles and our men's group are active September through May.  There is one men's group that meets on Sunday morning before Sunday school for breakfast and fellowship.  The purpose of the men's group is to provide the men of our congregation the opportunity to grow spiritually as disciples of Jesus Christ.  Following a hearty breakfast, there is a time for updating and planning outreach events and commenting on their relationship with Christ through witness, devotions and prayer.

The women of the church meet once a month at a members' home or at the church. The purpose of the women's groups is to provide a supportive fellowship of women who participate in global and local ministries.  The groups are small and there are opportunities for day and evening circle participation.  Currently, there are three women's groups.

For the Women's Groups, please contact Brenda Wiley at 804 919-1335

For the Men's Group, please contact Rick Bowman at  804 363-7629

Spiritual Growth and Discipleship

Several small groups meet monthly, bi-weekly or weekly for the purpose of challenging themselves to grow spiritually.  Spiritual growth is the process of becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. When we place our faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit begins the process of making us more like Him, conforming us to His image. Spiritual growth is perhaps best described in 2 Peter 1:3-8, which tells us that by God’s power we have “everything we need” to live lives of godliness, which is the goal of spiritual growth.

For information on joining one of these groups or starting a new group, contact our minister Bruce Johnson at 434 610-1115 or rbrucejohnson2010@gmail.com
